Summary of doctoral thesis: My doctoral thesis aims to provide a comprehensive account of the presence of metaphysics in Sextus Empiricus’ works. This raises two closely related questions: how does Sextus, as a sceptic, conceive and speak about reality? Which dogmatic metaphysical doctrines is he aware of? I purport to address these questions by engaging in a scrupulous analysis of his works, starting from the Outlines of Pyrrhonism. Hopefully, this will shed some light on Sextus both as a thinker on his own and as a source.
