Summary of doctoral thesis: My research explores the ethical and political philosophy of the 12th-century polymath Ghazālī, with a particular focus on his work The Measure of Action. This text can be seen as his counterpart to Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, reflecting both his engagement with and adaptation of classical Greek philosophical traditions. I am especially interested in the ways Ghazālī receives, refines, and sometimes synthesizes Platonic and Aristotelian ideas, as well as the advancements he makes on their ethical thought.
Other research interests: Social and political philosophy; passions and emotions; the relationship between ethics and politics
